Glucosamine Hydrochloride and Chondroitin Sulfate
It’s pretty well-known that the combination use of Glucosamine
hydrochloride and chondroitin sulfate is very good for bone and
joint health. As the population ages, the demand for these ingredients
are also skyrocketed.
In a study published in the New England Journal of Medicine, the
popular dietary supplement combination of glucosamine plus chondroitin
sulfate provided significant relief from osteoarthritis pain among
group of study participants with moderate-to-severe pain. This research
was funded by the National Center for Complementary and Alternative
Medicine (NCCAM) and the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal
and Skin Diseases (NIAMS), components of the National Institutes
of Health (NIH). Researchers led by rheumatologist Daniel O. Clegg,
M.D., of the University of Utah, School of Medicine, Salt Lake City,
conducted the 4-year study known as the Glucosamine/chondroitin
Arthritis Intervention Trial (GAIT) at 16 sites across the United
States.
Glucosamine is a modified sugar which is formed by the human body
and used as a precursor to form larger molecules called glycosaminoglycan,
it’s involved in the formation and repair of cartilage. These repeating
sugar units are also a major constituent of bones, ligaments, tendons
and fluid in the joint. Because of their low compressibility, it
is a ideal lubricant and is used as shock absorbers by joints.
Chondroitin sulfate can be used as material of health-care medicine
and cosmetic products. Enjoying favorable anti-senium function,
it can also become additives to health foods and cosmetic products.
